Leisenhof estate & Leisenpuiten vineyard: Rendezvous with wine

What once lay beyond the village gates has now moved to its centre, to its very heart: At the Rottenburgerplatz square in Kaltern, just below Sallegg Castle, stands the historic Leisenhof – the second “closed wine estate” in Kaltern, bordering the six-hectare vineyard known as Leisenpuiten. A protective wall encloses the vineyard, while a gate invites guests to stroll through the vines to the Leisenhof estate. “Puite” means an enclosed garden, once owned by the Kaltern-based Leiss family, whose lineage dates back to the 15th century. In 1892, Maria Raineria Princess of Campofranco, Countess Waidek, became the first recorded ancestor of the Counts of Kuenburg to own the Leisenhof estate.

The Vineria wine bar at the Leisenhof estate – at once a wine shop, bistro, and starting point for guided tours and tastings – is the vibrant centre of Castel Sallegg’s wine world.

Castle view & living history

Just 50 steps from the hotel, Sallegg Castle has shaped the villagescape of Kaltern’s Mitterdorf district since the 16th century. Originally built as the residence of the Herren von Sall, the castle changed hands several times over the centuries, passing through distinguished families such as the von Zinn, the Edlen von Zill, Sepp von Seppenburg, and the Barons Unterrichter von Rechtenthal, who were already engaged in viticulture – as evidenced by historic wine labels preserved in the castle..

The suites: Living in an aristocratic winery

Refined, elegant, and exquisite – the design of the suites at the Leisenhof estate reflects the same philosophy that shapes our wines. The historic estate carries the aura of its past, blending timeless charm with contemporary luxury. Spacious rooms, some featuring a private spa, offer an exclusive retreat. Sophisticated interiors combine modern design with carefully selected pieces from Sallegg Castle’s heritage, infused with the stories of the Counts of Kuenburg’s ancestors.

Enjoy a stay filled with indulgence and relaxation in the intimate atmosphere of our boutique hotel.
